Lions men’s soccer rallies to win over Sabercats

WATERTOWN, Wis. –The Finlandia University men’s soccer team (4-4-3) came from behind to beat Maranatha Baptist (3-5), 3-2, Saturday afternoon at MBU Soccer Field.

Finlandia drew first blood as freshman Skylar Thomas scored just 5:30 into the contest. Less than five minutes later Maranatha Baptist scored to tie the game.

The Sabercats scored at the 20:49 mark to take a 2-1 lead. 5:26 into the second half, freshman Benjamin Thompson scored on the right side to make it 2-2. One minute later, freshman Chinedu Ikem got the game-winner.

Finlandia had 13 shots with six on goal, seven corner kicks and were called for nine fouls.

Maranatha Baptist had 11 shots with five on goal, four corner kicks and were called for six fouls.

Finlandia ventures into the Lower Peninsula, Saturday, Oct. 7, taking on Andrews. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
