Lions women’s soccer slips past Sabercats

WATERTOWN, Wis. — A long-range shot gave the Finlandia University women’s soccer team (4-5-2) a 1-0 win over Maranatha Baptist (1-9), Saturday afternoon at MBU Soccer Field.

Finlandia had numerous strong scoring opportunities in the first half. Mallory Willette made several amazing saves to hold back the Lions.

Just 1:30 into the second half, senior Sam Linteo lifted a kick from 25-yards out. The ball floated over the keeper’s head and into the net.

Finlandia had 20 shots with nine on goal, four corner kicks and were called for 10 fouls.

Maranatha Baptist had five shots with two on goal, one corner kick and was called for one foul. Willette ended with seven saves.

Finlandia heads downstate, Friday, Oct. 7, playing Grace Christian. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
