Lions drop heartbreaker to Lumberjills

ASHLAND, Wis. — It was a hard-fought game as the Finlandia University women’s hockey team (0-9) lost 3-0 to Northland (1-6-1), Monday night at the Bay Area Civic Center.

Finlandia almost scored first as sophomore Michaela Powers had a shot saved at the last moment with 3:04 gone.  Sophomore Laney Pasemko kept the Lions in the game with several great saves.

In the second period, Northland scored at the 2:44 mark to take the lead.  FinnU had several strong scoring chances that were denied.  The Lumberjills scored with 6:03 left in the period, then got an insurance goal in the first minute of the final period.

The Lion defense came away with 14 blocks.  Pasemko finished with 50 saves.

Finlandia returns home, Saturday, Dec. 3, playing Lake Forest. The game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m.
