Lions felled by Lumberjacks
ASHLAND, Wis. — A furious rally fell short as the Finlandia University men’s basketball team (1-1) lost 89-75 to Northland (1-2), Sunday afternoon at Kedrigan Gym.
The game went back-and-forth for the first 10 minutes. Finlandia and Northland were trading buckets. Junior Davin Hill hit a bucket to put the Lions up 19-18 at the 10:16 mark.
The Lumberjacks put up a 15-3 run to lead 33-21 with 4:28 to go. Northland led by 17 at the half. In the second half, the Lumberjacks led by 17, 57-40 at the 16:16 mark.
Junior Taaj Thomas hit a pair of free throws with 16:12 to go, starting the Lion comeback. Sophomore Noah Prestia knocked down two charity tosses to close to 71-64 at the 7:21 mark. Northland scored five straight points to take control.
For Finlandia, junior Ilrick Higgins-Moise had 19 points, two steals and blocked two shots.
For Northland, Jordan Brennan scored 25 points.
Finlandia returns home Tuesday, taking on Lakeland. The game is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
