Lions held off scoreboard in sweep by Spartans

Finlandia sees Spartans move on

HANCOCK — The Finlandia University women’s hockey team (0-2 NCHA, 0-6) lost 7-0 to No. 15 Aurora (2-0 NCHA, 5-1), Saturday afternoon at the Houghton County Arena.

Aurora drew first blood scoring at the 3:13 mark. Finlandia had two strong scoring opportunities that were stopped by great plays. The Spartans scored three goals in a seven-minute span to seal the game.

Sophomore Michaela Powers had eight face-off wins for a .533 win percentage. Freshman Lexi Holman had 38 saves.

Lions open up NCHA season

The Finlandia University women’s hockey team lost 10-0 to No. 15 Aurora, Friday night at the Houghton County Arena.

Aurora started off quick, scoring 42 seconds into the game. Just five seconds later, senior Cassidy Becia was robbed of a goal by a great play.

The Spartans scored with 11:30 left to go up 2-0. Finlandia had several shots on target blocked at the last moment. Aurora scored once more in the opening period, then pulled away with four goals in the second period.

Sophomore Laney Pasemko ended up with 39 saves.

Up next

Finlandia takes to the road, Friday, Nov. 18, playing St. Norbert. The game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m.
