Lions close out first half with pair of losses to Falcons

Lions and Falcons duke it out

MEQUON, Wis. — It was a display of SISU as the Finlandia University women’s hockey team (0-13) lost 3-0 to Concordia Wisconsin (8-3-1), Saturday afternoon at the Ozaukee Ice Center.

At the eight-minute mark, sophomore Michaela Powers fired a shot that was somehow saved. Sophomore Laney Pasemko put on a clinic for Finlandia to keep the game scoreless.

In the second period, the Lions had two strong scoring chances that just missed. Concordia broke through with 13:26 left in the period. The Falcons scored twice in the last five minutes; then held FinnU off in the third.

The Lions defense came away with 19 blocks with four by sophomore Breanna Bisek. Pasemko had 67 saves, the third highest total in school history.

Finlandia gets grounded by Falcons

The Lions lost 8-0 to the Falcons Friday night at the Ozaukee Ice Center.

Just 29 seconds into the game, junior Jayde Pederson had a shot on target that was blocked at the last second.

Pasemko made numerous great saves for Finlandia.

With 5:49 left in the opening period, Concordia Wisconsin managed to sneak one in. The Lions had several strong scoring chances in the first minute of the second period.

At the 15:58 mark, the Falcons scored to make it 2-0. Concordia scored three goals in the first seven minutes of the third period to break the game open.

The defense was very active as they blocked 24 shots. Freshman Kennedi Johnson had seven and sophomore Arwen Sims blocked five.

Pasemko finished with 49 saves.

Up next

Finlandia is off until Saturday, Jan. 7, when they host Wisconsin-Superior. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
