Lions battle tough with Foresters
HANCOCK — It was a hard fought effort from the Finlandia University women’s hockey team (0-6 NCHA, 0-11) in a 4-0 loss to Lake Forest (2-1-1 NCHA, 5-3-1), Sunday night at the Houghton County Arena.
Finlandia came out quick as freshman Gracie Hall had a shot stopped at the last minute at the 1:31 mark. Sophomore Laney Pasemko put on a clinic with numerous amazing saves.
After two periods, neither the Lions or Lake Forest could put one past the goalies. In the third period, freshman Tessa Deal had a shot that was stopped at the last moment. The Foresters broke through at the 8:18 mark. Lake Forest scored three goals over the last six minutes.
The defense was very active as they blocked 20 shots. Junior Olivia Hodges and sophomore Michaela Powers had 11 faceoff wins each. Pasemko finished with 65 saves.
Lions score, but ultimately fall to Foresters
The Lions lost 7-1 to Lake Forest, Saturday night at the Houghton County Arena.
Freshman Tessa Deal had a shot that was stopped by a great play at the 4:18 mark. Freshman Lexi Holman kept Finlandia in the contest with numerous great saves. Lake Forest scored four times in the third period to pull away.
Sophomore Libby Plath broke up the shutout scoring with 6:40 left in the game. Sophomore Michaela Powers had 12 faceoff wins. Holman finished with 51 saves.
Up next
Finlandia takes to the road, Friday, Dec. 9, playing Concordia. The game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m.
