HOUGHTON — Michigan Tech senior Blake Pietila has been named the CCHA Goaltender of the Week the league announced on Monday. Pietila received the honor for the fourth time this season and for the 11th time in his career.

Pietila went 1-0-1 last weekend at Ferris State with a 1.44 goals-against average and a .941 save percentage, which were both tops among two-start netminders in the CCHA. He made a total of 48 saves on 51 shots, with six coming while the Huskies were shorthanded, helping the team go 9-for-9 on the penalty kill. He extended his nation-leading shutout mark to six and his school record career shutout mark to 16 while winning his 50th career game on Friday in a 1-0 win. He had 21 saves Friday and 27 Saturday in a 3-3 tie. Pietila ranks fourth nationally with 15 wins, fifth in minutes played, 10th in save percentage (.925), and 13th in goals-against average (2.06).

Michigan Tech is ranked No. 13 in this week’s DCU/USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls. The Huskies are 16-7-4 overall and 9-5-4 in the CCHA. The No. 13 ranking ties the highest of this season and ties last season’s top ranking.

The Huskies return home to host Northern Michigan Friday at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena. The teams will wrap up the weekend and season series in Marquette Saturday. There will be 1,000 7th man T-shirts handed out at Friday’s game sponsored by Holiday Inn Express.
