Lions fell Lumberjacks in overtime

HANCOCK — Sophomore Brendan Erickson got the game-winner in overtime as the Finlandia University men’s hockey team (2-9-1) beat Northland (1-13-1) 2-1, Tuesday night at the Houghton County Arena.

Viktor Wennberg and sophomore Dakota Meyer put on a clinic as they had numerous great saves the entire game. At the 9:36 mark, sophomore Garrett Alton scored to put Finlandia on the board first.

With 10:07 left in the second period, Northland managed to tie the game up. The third period was 20 minutes of defense and great saves to send the game into overtime.  Just 59 seconds into the extra period, Erickson blasted the puck in on the right side to end it.

Sophomore Nick Solema had 10 faceoff wins. Meyer finished with 26 saves.

Up next

Finlandia stays home Friday when they host Trine. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
