Lions women earn tough road split
Lions buckle the Buccaneers
BELOIT, Wis. — Junior Natalie Bartle broke a school record as the Finlandia University women’s basketball team (9-11) beat Beloit (7-13) 82-60, Saturday afternoon at Flood Arena.
For the first three minutes, Finlandia and Beloit played on even terms. The Buccaneers reeled off 10 straight points to lead 15-5 at the 4:55 mark.
Junior Bethany Baldwin hit a pair of free throws to start a run of 13 straight points. A bucket by sophomore Maija Rice put the Lions up, 18-15 with 32 second left.
Beloit hit a charity toss to close to 18-16. FinnU then scored 13 points in a four-minute span to put the game away.
For Finlandia, Bartle had 22 points, eight assists and five steals, Rice had 19 points, six assists and three steals and sophomore Elli Djerf had 17 points and four steals.
Bartle pushed her season steal total to 78 breaking the record of 76 by Marissa Burke (76- 2013-14). She is also just the fifth player to score 400 points in a season.
For Beloit, Hannah Welte had 20 points and seven assists while Addyson Ciochon scored 15 points.
Lions fall in clash with Titans
OSHKOSH, Wis. — The Finlandia University women’s basketball team (8-11) lost 83-49 to No. 32 Wisconsin-Oshkosh (15-5), Friday night at Kolf Sports Center.
The first four minutes, Finlandia and UW-Oshkosh were trading buckets. Rice hit a layup to make it 6-5, Titans at the 5:32 mark.
Oshkosh pushed the lead to nine, before the Lions began to creep back in. Rice hit two free throws to close the go to 19-13 with one minute to go. Wisconsin-Oshkosh scored seven straight points to take control.
For Finlandia, Bartle had 13 points and Rice had 10 points and three steals.
For Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Sarah Hardwick had 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Finlandia is off until Friday, Feb. 10, when they play Mount Mary on the road. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
