Finlandia esports battles to split Monday

HANCOCK — Finlandia University Esports FIFA took on Clarke and Averett, Monday.

Clarke – L 2-0 (4-1, 7-4)

Game 1 – Chelan Gonzalez as Paris, Clarke as Munich

Finlandia had to play some tight defense immediately into the start of the game making some great saves to keep the score 0-0. Just before half, Clarke scored a nice goal.

The Pride scored just after the second half for a 2-0 lead. The Lions cut it to one with 20 minutes left. 70th minute. Clarke scored twice in the final 10 minutes to secure the game.

Game 2 – Gonzalez as Paris, Clarke as Munich

Clarke came out firing, putting four goals in the net in the first 15 minutes to give themselves an early cushion. FinnU scored twice in a four-minute span to stay in the game. The team traded goals to end the half at 5-3, Pride. Clarke scored an insurance goal early in the second half.

Averett – W 2-0 (5-2, 4-3 OT)

Game 1 – Jordaan Miranda as Paris, Averett as Manchester City

Finlandia opened up the game hot scoring just five minutes after the opening whistle. The Lions scored twice in a 20-minute span and kept the Cougars at bay the rest of the way.

Game 2 – Miranda as Paris, Averett as Manchester City

FinnU scored a goal on a beautiful cross from the corner. Averett was able to follow that up tying the game at the 25-minute mark. Finlandia and the Cougars each scored twice to send the game into overtime at 3-3. The Lions made a nice move to score the game winner quickly in the OT.
