Copper Kings volleyball wins WestPAC tournament title

ISHPEMING — With wins over Iron Mountain, Negaunee and Houghton, the Calumet Copper Kings won the WestPAC Tournament title on Saturday. The Copper Kings topped Iron Mountain, 25-10, 25-6, then Negaunee, 25-10, 25-16, and finally Houghton, 25-16, 25-13.

Caitlyn Strom had a huge day for the Copper Kings with 22 digs, 10 aces, 13 kills and four blocks to chip in in every aspect she could.

Allison Bjorn led the team with 18 kills and 18 digs. Madelyn Torola had a similar day with 10 kills and 10 digs. Sienna Anderson also had a strong day with eight kills and six digs.

Jackie Kiilunen added 11 kills and 12 digs.

Laina Kariniemi racked up 49 assists and 11 digs on the day. Gabby Anderson had 10 digs and five aces.


The Copper Kings will host the Houghton Gremlins Monday at 6:30 p.m.
