Crush 14U wins Rod Timm tournament in Tomahawk

TOMAHAWK, Wis. — The Copper Country Crush 14U softball team competed in the Rod Timm tournament this past weekend. The Crush went 4-0 in pool play and then earned a pair of wins in medal play to earn the tournament title.

The Crush beat the host Tomahawk, 8-2, on Friday. On Saturday, they followed that effort up by beating Marshfield, 20-0.

Still on Saturday, they downed Lakeland, 15-7, and Merrill, 13-0, to move them to Championship Sunday as the top seed.

In the semifinal game, they faced Marshfield for a second time, this time getting the win 9-7 to advance to the championship game. In the title game, they faced the host Tomahawk, who had topped Lakeland, 15-0..

The Crush were down 3-0 in the bottom of the third when Payton Goldsworthy hit a grand slam home run to put her team up, 4-3. A run added by Aanika Schlief made it 5-3 in favor of the Crush.

Tomahawk responded in the fifth inning to tie the game at 5-5.

Lucy Biekkola added two runs and Chloe Coppo had one to finish the game, 8-5.

Goldsworthy was the winning pitcher, recording 16 strikeouts while facing 33 batters over the course of the game.
