Gremlins skiers compete at UP Finals

IRONWOOD — The Houghton Gremlin Ski Teams competed in the U.P. Final Ski Meet at Powderhorn Mountain in Ironwood Tuesday. The Houghton girls finished fourth with Rachel Sun making the podium with a fifth-place in the giant slalom. The Marquette girls won the U.P. Finals meet with a score of 33.

The Houghton boys finished in second overall, one point behind Marquette’s 37. The boys were led in the morning’s giant slalom by Jack Haeussler’s fifth-place finish, and Eli Heathman’s second-place finish.

The Gremlin boys won the afternoon’s slalom thanks to strong showings from Heathman, Haeussler, Logan Niemi, and Connor Kamm.

The All-U.P. Team was also announced at the finals.

Heathman earned First Team honors. Haeussler and Kamm earned Second Team honors.

UP NEXT

The next competition for the ski teams will be the state finals next Monday. Marquette’s boys and girls will compete in the D1 Finals at the Highlands. Norway’s girls will compete at the D2 finals at Nub’s Nob. Houghton’s Eli Heathman and Jack Haeussler will compete as individuals at the D2 finals at Nub’s Nob.
