Bulldogs baseball sweeps Lakes

HANCOCK — With 11 runs in the second inning, the Hancock Bulldogs baseball team earned a 17-0 win over the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes Monday afternoon at the Hancock Driving Park. In the nightcap, Hancock racked up 11 in the first inning and 14 in the third to earn a 29-0 victory.

Ned Larson came up big in the opening game, going 1-for-3 in the leadoff spot with two RBI and three runs scored and one walk. On the mound, he was equally good, striking out five and surrendering just one hit.

Third baseman Benny Keranen went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored in the second position in the Bulldogs’ lineup. Catcher Luke Mikkola was also strong at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored.

Left fielder Todd Kilpela went just 1-for-1 at the plate, but he drew two walks, knocked in one run and scored three times.

All nine Bulldogs batters scored at least one run in the game with seven hitters picking up at least one hit.

Larson, who moved to shortstop in the nightcap, was again good at the plate, going just 1-for-2, but he drew a pair of walks, racked up four RBI and scored five times, all while leading off.

Keranen, batting second, went 1-for-1, but also drew a pair of walks, knocked in four, and scored three times.

Center fielder Zach Geborkoff went 3-for-4 at the plate, knocking in five runs and scoring three times.

Eight of 10 Hancock batters picked up hits in the game, with all 10 scoring at least one run.

Keranen pitched one inning, striking out two and walking one. Mikkola went two innings in relief, striking out five and keeping the Lakes off the bases.

Hancock is back in action Tuesday when they travel to face Negaunee.
