LAKE LINDEN — When it rains it pours. That adage certainly came true for the Tervo Agency on Wednesday as they were down 7-0 after two innings in a game against Superior National Bank.

First came the hits, and then the hit parade came pouring down in the form of 17 ladies crossing home plate in the top of the third. Everybody batted twice and scored at least once as Tervo came away with a 25-11 victory.

“We were flying high in the momentum and motivated by the success from everyone,” said Tervo’s player-coach Danielle Thoune. “Every one of these ladies hit, and they were solid hits. As well, 12 of those runs came with two outs against us.”

Those 17 runs would be all they needed to earn the win.

Ellen Coppernoll was in the circle for Tervo and earned a complete-game win. She helped her own cause with five hits and three runs. Centerfielder Mel Baker had three RBIs. Catcher Aubrey Zackal had five hits and scored four runs.

“We had five batters score three runs each,” added Thoune. “We were on fire.”

To top off the hit parade, Tervo’s second baseman Sarah Dowd blasted a two-run homer over the fence in the sixth.

“This game came down to fielding and base running, and tonight Tervo was firing on all cylinders,” said Thoune. “I am beyond proud of the work the ladies put in tonight.”

Tervo Agency 8, Gold Standard 8

Tervo’s win was their second game of the night. They opened with a make-up game against Gold Standard, which ended in an 8-8 tie due to time constraints.

Emily Jokela and Payton Goldsworthy pitched for Gold Standard, and Baker pitched for Tervo Agency.

For Gold Standard, Kara Kinnunen had two singles and four RBIs and Payton Goldsworthy hada triple and a double.

For Tervo, Baker had a triple and a single and Alana Nolan had three hits and two RBIs.

According to Thoune, strong fielding was what kept Tervo in the game.

“We were quick to the ball and threw well,” she said. “We had good communication on the field.”

The tie came in the bottom of the seventh, as Tervo was down by two at 8-6.

“We fought hard, dug deep, and stole some bases as Josie Hembroff and Tatum Sporalski both scored,” Thoune added. “The grit the ladies showed tonight was awesome.”
