Lakes softball earns sweep of Copper Kings

LAKE LINDEN — The Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes softball team earned a sweep Monday over the Calumet Copper Kings at the Boneyard in Lake Linden.

The opening game saw the Lakes emerge victorious, 11-10, thanks to a 10-strikeout performance in the circle for Payton Goldsworthy. The nightcap saw the Lakes rally behind the pitching of Olivia Shank to earn a 10-0 win.

Goldsworth walked just four in the opener to go along with her 10 strikeouts. At the plate, she was just as good, racking up a pair of doubles.

Ashlyn Steves also had two doubles. Alli Corrigan added a pair of singles to help drive the Lakes’ offense.

Isabella Coppo had a pair of singles for the Copper Kings. Ryleigh Johnson also had a single.

Lena Myhren took the loss for Calumet.

In the second game, Shank was good in the circle, racking up five strikeouts and surrendering just one walk. At the plate, she picked up a pair of doubles.

Goldsworthy had an outstanding second game, racking up a double, a triple, and a walk-off home run to seal the win.

Kaylee Newsome and Jaysa Wicks both picked up hits for the Copper Kings in the loss.

Audrey Erkkila took the loss in the pitcher’s circle.

UP NEXT

Calumet returns to action Friday when they travel to face Ironwood. The opening game is set for a 4 p.m. start.
