WestPAC announces girls all-conference teams
HOUGHTON — On Thursday, March 6, The WestPAC announced their award winners for the 2024-25 season for girls basketball. Negaunee led the way thanks to Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, Aubrey Johnson, a senior. Miners coach Mike O’Donnell was named Coach of the Year as well.
The Dream Team featured Calumet senior guard Jackie Kiilunen and Houghton senior forward Eva Gerard. Also named were Ishpeming junior guard Jenessa Eagle, Westwood senior guard Lexi Olson, and Negaunee sophomore guard Gretel Johnson.
Kiilunen was also named to the All-Defensive Team. Hancock junior forward Emery Chynoweth was also named to the team. Joining them were Eagle, Negaunee sophomore forward Keira Waterman, Gwinn sophomore guard Makayla Delmont, and Westwood junior guard Addy Hallum.
Chynoweth headlined to the Copper Division First Team, along with Houghton sophomore guard Ellie Hainault, Calumet sophomore guard Bailey Strom, Calumet junior guard Kiirsi Johnson, and West Iron County senior guard Kaitlin Smith.
Delmont headlined the Iron Division First Team. She was joined by Iron Mountain sophomore forward Macy Linsenbigler, Ishpeming senior guard Peyton Kakkuri, Westwood senior guard Isabella Marta, and Negaunee junior forward Clare O’Donnell.
Earning honorable mention were Hancock senior guard Sofie Freeman, Houghton sophomore guard Ruby Zawada, and Calumet senior forward Allison Bjorn among the Copper Country players. Also getting mention were Ishpeming senior guard Laynie Korpi, Gwinn senior guard Miaha Schiefel, Iron Mountain senior guard Gerilis Sampoll-Torres, Westwood sophomore guard Eliisa Doney, Negaunee senior forward Madison Pekrul, and West Iron County junior guard Lacy Shamion.
