Offense on display as Lakes softball sweeps Jets

LAKE LINDEN — The Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes softball team continued their hot streak Thursday as they rolled to a sweep of a doubleheader over the Jeffers Jets, 10-0 and 19-3.
In the opener, pitcher Emily Jokela held the Jets to just two hits while striking out 10 in five innings in the pitcher’s circle. At the plate, she went 1-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored.
The Lakes scored three times in the bottom of the first, added two more in the third, four in the fourth, and one more in the fifth to earn the win.
Shortstop Payton Goldsworthy and first baseman Alli Corrigan had two hits each. One of Goldsworthy’s hits was a triple.
Center fielder Ashlyn Steves, third baseman Cleo Milkey, and catcher Kyara Mills all had one hit each.
Second baseman Janet Mattila and shortstop Meg Ruohonen both collected a hit each for the Jets.
Ellie Kuntze took the loss, striking out four, walking six, and giving up eight hits.
In the nightcap, the Lakes got three hits each from Steves, Jokela, and Goldsworthy. Jokela had two home runs in the game, and Goldsworthy had one.
Goldsworthy also had a double and a triple, so she finished just a single short of the cycle. In the pitcher’s circle, she went three innings, striking out eight and giving up four hits. Steves pitched two innings in relief, striking out one, walking two and giving up three hits.
For the Jets, Ruohonen had two hits, including a double. She knocked in a run and scored one.
Kylee Andrews, Mattila, Naomi Frahm, Kuntze and Kaydee Archambeau all collected one hit each.
Mattila went five innings in the circle, striking out one, walking 12, and giving up 14 hits.
