Five Nordic skiers named Academic All-District
HOUGHTON – Michigan Tech Huskies Nordic skiers Bridget Burns, Colin Freed, Greta Hansen, Tryg Solberg, and Marie Sølverud Wangen have been named to the 2024-25 Academic All-District® At-Large teams. The honor is selected by College Sports Communicators to recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom.
Bridget Burns is a sophomore and holds a 3.94 grade-point average in Environmental Engineering. She is the 2025 CCSA Classic Champion and was named to the All-CCSA Second Team. Burns qualified for NCAA Championships where she scored with a top 30 finish in the 20K skate.
Colin Freed graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree and held a 3.60 GPA. He was named All-CCSA First Team after four CCSA wins on the season and finishing on the podium in every CCSA skate race. He had skate wins at the Swedetown Season Opener, the St. Scholastica CCSA Invite, and was the top CCSA finisher at the US Cross Country Ski National Championships. Freed wrapped up the season with a top 20 finish in classic at the NCAA Championships, helping lead the men’s team to top 10 team finish.
Greta Hansen is a sophomore Exercise Science student with a 3.89 GPA. She was named All-CCSA First Team after four podiums in skate races and placed top five in all skate races. Hansen placed second in the classic at the CCSA Championship and was the top ranked Tech skier in the CCSA season standings, placing third. She raced to a 25th place finish in the skate at the NCAA Championships.
Tryg Solberg is a graduate student with a 3.93 GPA while pursuing a Master of Geographic Information Science. He was named All-CCSA First Team and is the 2025 CCSA Skate Champion. Solberg had four podium finishes and six top 10s. He finished his Tech career with a 20th place finish in the mass start skate at the NCAA Championships, appearing at NCAAs for the second straight season.
Marie Sølverud Wangen graduated with an Engineering Management and held a 3.94 GPA. She was named All-CCSA First Team and had four podium finishes with a second at the NCAA Regional classic and third at the CCSA Championship classic. Wangen also appeared in three national sprint finals throughout her final season with the Huskies. She competed at the 2025 NCAA Championship and led the Huskies in the classic.
CSC Academic All-America® candidates must have a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA in at least their sophomore year academically and athletically, and they must meet certain sport-specific playing-time requirements. The at-large program covers all NCAA-sponsored sports that do not have their own voting process.
The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes At-Large honorees in five divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, and the College Division. Academic All-District® honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. NCAA, NAIA and College Division Women’s At-Large Academic All-America® First-, second- and third-team honorees will be announced on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. The Men’s At-Large Teams will be announced on Wednesday, July 9.
