HOUGHTON — Garnet Garage posted six-run fifth inning and pushed past Coldwell Banker Craig Heinonen 12-9 in Twilight League action Tuesday.

While Garnet Garage jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two, Coldwell Banker tied it in the top of the fourth at 4-4.

Garnet Garage got the bats rolling in the first with three runs. This included base hits by pitcher Kade Farrell, second baseman Kevin Bostwick and catcher Mike Saari – all three later scored.

Farrell helped his own cause in the second with a solo home run blast over the left center fence to make it 4-0.

Coldwell Banker climbed back into this one with two runs in the third and another two in the top half of the fourth. Scoring in the third were Kyle Heltunen and Brogan Turner. In the fourth, Ross Kinnunen led off with a double. Kyle Heltunen followed with single and Brogan Turner brought them both in with a base hit up the middle.

The 4-4 tie was short-lived as Garnet Garage rallied two of their own in the bottom of the fourth to make it 6-4.

In the top of the fifth, Coldwell Banker took their first lead of the game with a three-run rally. This included a lead-off double by Eric Anderson, a single by Carson Turner and a RBI-double by Cody Turner. While they were up now 7-6, Coldwell Banker could not keep Garnet Garage off the bases in the bottom of the fifth.

In that frame, they posted six runs and sealed the win. Three errors by the Coldwell Banker infield led to three Garnet runs. Five walks also contributed to the scoring. The only base hit of the inning came off the bat of Farrell.

While Coldwell Banker was able to post two in the seventh, it wasn’t enough.

“Kade gets the game ball for the home run blast,” noted Garnet Garage’s player-coach Bostwick. “We cannot forget his ground-rule double as well. Overall, we put the ball in play and capitalized when we had runners in scoring position and made the plays in the field to get the win.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
