HOUGHTON — The Michigan Tech Huskies hockey team was picked third in the coaches’ CCHA Preseason Poll and fourth in the media’s poll, the league announced on Monday. Stiven Sardarian was named to the Preseason All-CCHA Team by both groups, while Isaac Gordon was also on the coaches’ preseason team.

Minnesota State and St. Thomas were the top two picks in both polls. The coaches had the Tommies ahead of the Mavericks by one point, and the media placed MSU over UST by 12 points. The media had Tech third with a pair of first-place votes and tied with Augustana in overall points. Bowling Green was ahead of the Huskies in the Media poll.

Sardarian led the Huskies with 35 points on 11 goals and 24 assists in 35 games last season. He ranked third in the CCHA in assists and fourth in points. Sardarian had nine multi-point games, scored three game-winning goals, and a pair of power play goals. He was a Hobey Baker Nominee, was honored as the CCHA Forward of December, and earned three CCHA Forward of the Week honors.

Gordon ranked third on the team as a sophomore with 26 points (7 goals, 19 assists) in 36 games. He ranked fifth in the CCHA in shots on goal (116) and eighth in assists (19). The captain of the Huskies attended the Columbus Blue Jackets Development Camp for the second straight season. Gordon had five multi-point games and scored a pair of game-winning goals. He was named the 2023 CCHA Rookie of the Year and to the 2023 CCHA All-Rookie Team.

The CCHA officially drops the puck on year five of the reconfigured league on Friday, Oct. 3. Eight of the CCHA’s nine teams will be in action on opening weekend, with Minnesota State getting its season underway on Oct. 10.
