ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Michigan Tech Huskies volleyball middle blocker Tricia Kennedy was named to the Up North All-Tournament Team Monday.

“Trisha comes up with big blocks at excellent times,” said Huskies coach Cindy Pindral. “She has a knack for blocking on game point or close to game point to give us an advantage, or something like that. So she certainly sharpened up through the course of the Adelphi match.”

Kennedy averaged 1.57 kills per set and 1.14 blocks per set in the four matches while hitting .333. In the 3-0 sweep of Adelphi on Saturday, Kennedy tallied 11 kills and six blocks (three solo blocks and three block assists) while hitting .550. In the tournament opener at Minnesota-Duluth, the junior middle blocker had seven kills and seven blocks. She added three kills on four attempts against No. 17 Barry.

“Once she gets a little bit more disciplined in terms of reading the setter, and kind of anticipating where the ball’s going to go so that she can close the block, she’s excellent,” Pindral said. “Tricia, I thought, really got better at it as the Adelphi match wore on. She started to get more block touches and started to block their middle as well. 

“She’s really come alive. She’s certainly settling into the starting role of middle. I forget that she hasn’t really been a starter for too much, but she’s doing great. She works really hard. She’s definitely a servant mentality. She’s just like, ‘I’ll do good with whatever ball you give me. Just give me the ball and we’re good to go.'”

The Huskies head into GLIAC play this weekend with a 3-4 record. The Huskies play at Ferris State on Friday at 5 p.m. and at Davenport on Saturday at 2 p.m.
