PAINESDALE — After a loss to the Houghton Gremlins on Monday, the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes boys basketball team (3-1 overall) got back on the winning track Wednesday with a 49-33 victory on the road against the Jeffers Jets (1-3).
“It was a much better performance tonight,” said Lakes coach Brett Poissant.
“We hustled and handled their pressure much better tonight. It wasn’t the cleanest game but we got the job done.”
The Lakes opened the first with a 13-6 lead. They earned 10 more points in the second with some good ball movement and patience on the offensive side. They led 23-12 at half.
“At half, I told them that we have to close this thing out,” said Poissant. “We need to come out strong and close it, and I think we did.”
While the Jets’ best quarter was the third, they were still outscored 23-12. For every basket the Jets made, the Lakes countered. They were one and done on offense, struggling to put any consistent scoring push together.
The Lakes won the fourth 10-8 and closed the game out.
Blake Lebo led the scoring for the Lakes with an impressive 25 points. Josh Daavettila followed with 12.
“Josh gets the game ball,” Poissant said. “He wanted it. He got us this win tonight, for sure.”
For the Jets, seniors Levi Kinnunen and Landon Larson had the hot hands with 10 points each.
