Copper Mountain Conference honors top performers

DOLLAR BAY — The Copper Mountain Conference announced their boys basketball awards Thursday.

The Dollar Bay-Tamarack City Blue Bolts came away with several major awards as they were the top team in the Copper Country Conference and the top overall team. Jesse Kentala was named Coach of the Year, and senior Liam Tourtillott was named Player of the Year.

The Bessemer Speedboys were the top team in the Porcupine Mountain Division. Aidan Partanen was named Defensive Player of the Year.

The Elite Team included three Copper Country players in Tourtillott, Baraga’s Daniel Connor, and L’Anse’s Sam Lee. They were joined by Bessemer’s Jayden Verrett and Leland Hollenbeck, and Wakefield-Marenisco’s Chase Lane.

Tourtilott, Connor and Lee were joined by Lake Linden-Hubbell’s Josh Daavettila and Dollar Bay’s Caleb Kentala on the Copper Country Division First Team.

Chassell’s Braydon Larson, Dollar Bay’s Baron Colbert, Baraga’s Joseph Fish, L’Anse’s Keegan Davidson, and Lake Linden-Hubbell’s Blake Lebo were all named to the Copper Country Division’s Second Team.

Ontonagon’s Jack Nelson was named to the Porcupine Division’s First Team. He was joined by Verrett, Hollenbeck, and Lane, along with Ironwood’s Nick Miskovich and Wakefield-Marenisco’s Brock Pangrazzi.

Ewen-Trout Creek’s Brody Majurin was named to the Porcupine Division’s Second Team. He was joined by Partanen and teammate Gus Matrella, along with Ironwood’s Brendon McCullough, and Wakefield-Marenisco’s Garrett Prisbe.

Chassell’s Grady Olson, Dollar Bay’s Noah Tourtillott, Baraga’s Easton Fuego, and L’Anse’s Talon Larson were all given honorable mention in the Copper Country Division.

Bessemer’s Cayden Harju and Ontonagon’s Mason and Jace Pestka were given honorable mention in the Porcupine Division.
