Recalling one gutsy performance

HANCOCK — L’Anse used the sharp pitching of Bryce Crawford and Cooper Jahfetson to sweep a doubleheader over Hancock Tuesday evening.

The Hornets, who were playing their season-opening game, scored 17-0 wins in both contests at a rainy Hancock Driving Park.

“We played very well as a team today,” L’Anse manager Jim Fish said. “We took a ton of walks and threw in some timely hits. Hancock has a very young team; I think they started four freshmen today.”

Crawford allowed very little to the Bulldogs in the opening game. He fanned six batters in gaining the win.

L’Anse grabbed a 7-0 lead after three innings and ended the contest with ten runs in the fourth inning.

Logan Fish and Crawford each had two hits for the winners in the opener.

Fish is coming off a severe ACL injury that sidelined him for the past football and basketball seasons.

L’Anse scored at will in the nightcap as Jahfetson kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard in the four-inning contest.

“I was pleased with our pitching today,” Jim Fish said. “Both Bryce (Crawford) and Cooper (Jahfetson) threw the ball real well.”

L’Anse will visit Jeffers at Stanton on Friday for another doubleheader.

Hancock travels to Bessemer on the same day.
