Letter of thanks from the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club
Dear Members & Sponsors,
On behalf of Keweenaw Snowmobile Club, thank you for being a supporter of our snowmobile trail system. The 2023-2024 snowmobile season has ended, although I’m not sure we can ever say it ever started. We worked hard to send groomers out on the trail at every available opportunity without damaging equipment. We did not groom at all in December or March and only groomed 3,247 miles this year compared to our 18-year average of 31,617 miles. This is the lowest mileage we’ve ever groomed.
We will be working on events for next season soon. Follow us on Facebook or check the website for the most up to date information.
You are welcome to join us every month for our Board meetings. They occur at 117 Stanton Ave., Mohawk, MI 49950 on the second Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m.
The Keweenaw Snowmobile Club is a nonprofit volunteer board that operates on a grant from the DNR that covers our grooming operations. However, that grant does not provide funds for the storage garage for the grooming machines. Keweenaw Snowmobile Club currently has five machines with the accompanying drags. These machines are $290,000 or more each, so we have over a million dollars’ worth of machines we are responsible for housing and taking proper care of.
Our current barn in Mohawk has been in use by the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club for nearly 20 years and is very rough shape. The space is inadequate, and the building is quite dilapidated.
Keweenaw Snowmobile Club has been collecting donations and has held numerous fundraisers over the past few years to collect resources to put up a new groomer maintenance and storage facility. Thanks to many generous individuals and businesses over $260,000 has been raised, over the last year we have been able to pour the concrete floor, hang overhead doors, rough in plumbing, install electrical service, have started the firewall.
However, to complete the project, we need to raise another $150,000 or so to insulate, install electricity, as well as finish off the inside of the building.
Donations can be made on the website or mailed to the club at P.O. Box 87, Calumet, MI 49913.
If you have any questions, please contact the club via phone at 906-934-2650 or email office@keweenawsnowmobileclub.com.
Sincerely,
Keweenaw Snowmobile Club Board of Directors
