Fatal motorcycle crash in Keweenaw County
GRANT TOWNSHIP – A man from Kentucky is dead as the result of a motorcycle accident in Keweenaw County. According to a press release from the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in Grant Township just before noon Monday.
According to the release, at approximately 11:59 a.m. on Monday, deputies were dispatched to U.S. 41. near the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge outside of Copper Harbor.
A 68-year-old male from White Plains, Kentucky, was traveling northbound on US-41 when he failed to negotiate a curve and collided with a guardrail, the release states. Police said the man was riding alone and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the crash is currently unknown and remains under active investigation by the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Copper Harbor Fire & First Responders, Mercy Ambulance, and the Keweenaw County Medical Examiner’s Office.
