Summer Slam a success Editor: The Good Times Music Summer Slam concert series was a raging success again this year, and there's a lot of thanks to go around! We'd like to thank all the community members who came out to listen, socialize, and have a great time all summer long! To get beyond our current dysfunctional discourse, all Americans need to honor facts. No matter what we believe or how we spin it, this does not change the reality of a fact. You may believe, in the deepest part of your being, that the earth is flat. Fact: it is not, regardless of what you think. To the editor: Recently, the Mining Gazette reported upon the theft of around 900 American flags taken from Michigan Tech's campus, and thrown in the dumpsters. These flags were part of a beautiful and grand display set up through hard work and honorable efforts by the Young Americans for Freedom group as a memorial to those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. Editor: Michigan has lost a lot of federal services this year. The National Weather Service is understaffed. The Department of Education is severely weakened. Health and Human Services has been disrupted by massive restructuring. And plenty of people are out of jobs. At the same time, there are warning signs in the national economy: tariffs, unfunded tax cuts, record corporate debt, and a struggling housing market. A cultural shift in the USA is occurring right before our very eyes. What is it? Political dogma saturates us. Are we to be a nation abiding by the ideals stated by our Founding Fathers? That is, each person can live freely, prosper in accordance with his native abilities and thereby flourish. Some will flourish while others may not do as well. Each man should be free to pursue his own lifestyle within the boundaries of reasonable laws, so say our Founding Fathers.
