Big Lie Bergman

To the editor: I write today with disappointment in Rep. Bergman’s support of the “big lie” that the election of President Biden and Vice President Harris was rigged. I also write to call into account those financially backing his unpatriotic, undemocratic, abdication of honorable service to his constituents. Rep. Bergman has violated the sacred oath of his office. and must be held accountable. So too, those who support him with their campaign dollars. We live in troubled times but not irreparable times. We live as neighbors who may not agree on all aspects of county and ...

My friends; COVID-19

To the editor: Have faith and God will help protect you. God will provide. God provided a mask: wear it. God provided soap: wash your hands. God provided a vaccine: take it. God provided space: share it, six feet apart. God provided a home to stay in: a chance to share more of God’s word together. God provided a brain: use it, respect God’s gifts.

A presidential farce

To the editor: The last farcical act of the former President Donald Trump is when he played the role of Inciter in Chief on Jan. 6 at Capitol Hill. Even in this hideous drama, he failed to fulfill his objective of remaining in power. He lacked the knowledge, planning, and drive of what it takes to mount a successful insurrection. Thank God for this fact. As I watched the mob take over the Capitol on that infamous day, I could sense the mixed emotions of good versus evil. Some of the rioters were attempting to fight nice, while many released their dark nature exacerbated by Trump’s ...

Mail service disappointment

To the editor: As I sit on my sofa on another Saturday evening, without my weekend paper… I write to express my extreme disappointment with the failure of the Daily Mining Gazette to deliver my daily newspaper, via the U.S. Postal Service. When the Gazette turned to this new delivery method, I re-upped with a two-year subscription to support the future of the paper with the hope that this media source might stay in business a bit longer. It is now clear that the demise of this disappearing format for Keweenaw news has been accelerated with the withdrawal of home delivery. It ...

Mob justice is not justice

To the editor: Watching the impeachment trial, it is very clear that the murderous mob truly believed that they were doing Trump’s work, that he invited them to enter the Capitol, and that he wanted them to stop the counting of the electoral votes, no matter how they had to accomplish that.  I have a message to the murderous mob, which, sadly, includes some of our neighbors here in Michigan:  When you are in legal trouble because of your actions, Trump will not come to your rescue.  When you lose your job, or are shunned by your neighbors and friends, Trump will not help you.  ...

Frustrations

To the editor: Recently, there’s been a few articles about not drinking the Kool-Aid. Really? It looks more like the case of the kettle calling the pot black. The guns and butter debate isn’t worth the paper that it’s printed on, when you have despots and dictators from China to Venezuela, North Korea to Iran, and Russia to Turkey. Who was it that said, “Walk softly and carry a big stick?” How many of the under-60 generations can answer it? President Eisenhower pushed for the preaching of evolution in our schools, and look at where we are today. We hear the misguided ...
