August 28
• Wasted! The story of Food Waste, 6 p.m. Orpheum Theater, Hancock. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. film at 6 p.m. Presented by WUPPDR, CCRI, and Wolfs Head Film. Event is free and snacks provided.
• Hancock Tori, 2-5 p.m. Quincy Green
• Houghton Waterfront Concert, 7 p.m. Rat Kestner Waterfront Park. Tonight’s free Downtown Houghton concert features classic hits from Rewind at the bandshell at Ray Kestner Waterfront Park. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on. Kids can play at Chutes and Ladders nearby.
• Compost – Film and learn, 5:30 p.m. Orpheum Theatre. Food Waste and Composting in the Western UP is a free public event at the Orpheum in Hancock. Doors open at 5:30, and food will be provided. At 6 p.m., watch the film Wasted! The Story of Food Waste – rated TV-MA for adult language. Two presentations will follow –
Jonathon Nagel, CCRI Director, who will share the Transfer Station Waste Characterization Study results, and detail the current materials management process.
Evan Lanese, who will describe how large-scale composting can improve our economy and environment, and give an overview of current initiatives in the Western U.P.
• Copper Country Community Band Concert, 7 p.m. Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Chassell. The Copper Country Community Band will perform a special benefit to raise funds for flood recovery efforts in the area. Donations will go to support the Houghton County Road Commission, which is managing critical road repairs following recent heavy rains and flooding.

• Lake Linden Farmers Market, 3 – 6 p.m. Lake Linden Park
August 30
• Gay Fire Dept. Bazaar, 1 – 3 p.m. Gay Community Center. The Gay Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will hold its final bazaar and sale of the summer. There will be a half-price sale, and clothing will be fill-a-bag for $5. It’s your final chance to bid on auction items. A Men’s tent sale will also be going on outside. Indulge in an ice cream float. Their usual free-will donation lunch will be available.
• Saturday Tori, 9 a.m. – noon, Quincy Green, Hancock

•Polka Dance, 5 – 8 p.m. South Range Eagles. The South Range Eagles Club hosts polka dances with live music each Sunday. All are welcome.
