October 18

• Pancake Breakfast, 8 a.m. to noon, Alfred Erickson American Legion Post, Hancock. The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 186 will host a pancake breakfast. Serving pancakes, Vollwerth’s sausage, eggs, real orange juice, real maple syrup, and Dunkin coffee. The cost is $10, 6 and under are free. Assisting will be the Houghton JROTC.

• No Kings Day in the Copper Country, noon – 2 p.m. Bridgeview Park, Houghton. Hear from powerful local voices for democracy starting at noon, then march with our posters up to the bridge! A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action.

• Temple Jacob, Open House, 2 – 4 p.m. Temple Jacob, 301 Front Street, Hancock.

• Treat Street, 4 – 6 p.m. Downtown Houghton. Downtown Houghton will celebrate its 16th annual Treat Street. Don your costumes, and hit the town. Businesses and organizations will be handing out candy up and down Shelden Avenue. You may begin trick or treating at any point on Shelden Avenue; there is no need to a form a line at the City Center (there will not be a haunted house).

• Children’s Fall Festival & Craft Day 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Grace Free Lutheran Church, Pelkie. Grace Free Lutheran Church’s Children’s Fall Festival & Craft Day will feature crafts and lunch for children and teens of all ages. All local families are invited. The theme is “God’s Workers”, so those who wish to dress up should come as a “worker”.

October 19

• Fall Family Fun Fest, 1 – 3 p.m. Dollar Bay Fire Dept. The Dollar Bay Fall Family Fun Fest will feature a trunk or treat event, a costume parade, games, crafts, popcorn, a movie and more at the fire hall and Pioneer Park. There is no charge. Kids must be accompanied by an adult.

• Halloween Party, 2-4 p.m. Grace Lutheran Church, South Range. Grace Lutheran Church in South Range will host a Not So Scary Halloween Party for kids from pre-k through 9th grade. Enjoy fun, friends, games, crafts and pizza. Wear your costume!

• Let’s Eat Community Meal, 4-5:30 p.m. Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Chassell. Donated by The Church of the Resurrection of Hancock. The volunteers preparing and serving the meal will be Mike Patterson of Hancock and members of the Sigma Rho fraternity in Chassell. The menu will include baked chicken, vegetables, a dinner roll, fruit and dessert.

October 25

• “A Toast to Big Annie!” at the Calumet Theatre begins with a free screening of “Red Metal: The Copper Country Strike of 1913” from 6:30 to 7:30. p.m. Bar opens at 6 p.m. Limited tickets are available at $65 per person to attend a fundraising reception in the ballroom from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. where you will be welcomed with piano music by Paul Behn, followed by an exclusive talk by author Steve Lehto, appetizers from Miscowaubik, live music by The Jones Brothers and a silent auction. Tickets are on sale now at calumettheatre.com or by calling the box office at 906-337-2610.

Now through Oct. 31

• Coat the Copper Country. We are collecting clean, new or gently used coats, snowpants, boots, waterproof gloves/mittens, hats and scarves for all ages, especially children (and men). Donations can be dropped off donations at The Salvation Army.

November 4

• The November meeting of the Houghton-Keweenaw Chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel (MARSP) will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at the Bonfire in Houghton. The business meeting will begin at 12:30 p.m. followed by a buffet lunch. The guest speaker will be Mike Lutz, executive director of Omega House. All members are encouraged to attend.
