Events and opportunities
December 13
• Copper Harbor Winter Wonderfest, noon to 5:30 p.m. Donny Kilpela Memorial Park. Copper Harbor’s Winter Wonderfest includes a holiday marketplace featuring local artists’ work and a scrumptious bake sale. From 2 to 4 p.m. there will be ornament making for kids, with a surprise visitor arriving on a fire engine at 4 p.m. At 6 p.m. sharp, kick off the season with the tree lighting in the park and fireworks. All proceeds go to the “No Child Without a Christmas Fund.”
• Skanee Christmas Fun Day, noon – 2 p.m. Skanee Town Hall. Skanee’s Christmas Fun Day will include a bake sale, 50-50 and other raffles, quarter grab bags, and a visit by Santa at 12:30 p.m. Raffle prizes will be awarded at 2 p.m. – if you won’t be present, please make arrangements to pick up your prizes.
• Lake Linden Santa Visit and Christmas Cinema, 4 p.m. Lake Linden Village Hall. Santa will be at the Lake Linden Village Hall from 4 – 6 p.m. His visit will be followed by the Christmas Cinema movie “Frosty The Snowman.” Admission and refreshments are free, and there will be many door prizes. The Lovelight lighting will also take place at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Village Hall. Purchase a light on the Love Light Tree in remembrance of a loved one and have their name added to the Christmas Card displayed in front of the Village Hall. Sign up at the Village Hall or Lindell’s. The cost is $1 per name, with money donated to the Knights of Columbus for toys. Sponsored by the Lake Linden Village and the Lake Linden Downtown Development Association.
• Wilderness Walk, 3 p.m. Special Advent Celebration. Meet at Calumet Township Park. Walk less than 400 yards to Sarah Green’s barn. Music offered by Charles Murphy. The Wilderness Walks are opportunities to connect with God and each other in an outdoor natural setting. Each walk has a leader who will guide the walk and stop along the way for readings and reflection. The walks are appropriate for all ages including families and children. Everyone is welcome, no religious affiliation is necessary.
• Baraga Children’s Christmas Party, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. 100 Hemlock St. Baraga, sponsored by the Baraga Fire Department.
December 14
• Let’s Eat Community Meal, 4 – 5:30, St. Ann’s Church, Baraga. This meal is open to guests of all ages and are free of charge. The cost of the monthly meals are covered through contributions of local businesses,, organizations and congregations.
December 20
• KNHP Open House, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Looking for something festive? The Keweenaw National Historical Park’s Calumet Visitor Center (98 5th St, Calumet) has something for you! Step into historical holiday cheer at the Holiday Open House. You’ll have the opportunity to engage in make-and-take holiday crafts inspired by 150 years of seasonal traditions.
