Copper Country Angel Mission buys new building

CALUMET — The CCAM recently purchased the former North End Bar on the north-side of Calumet. It is vacating its current store by today. The group will temporarily suspend receiving donations of clothing and goods and will be closed for a brief time for renovations and the set up of the new store.  CCAM is still in need of monetary donations to assist in the renovations and outreach in the community. The group's current address is:119 5th Street, Calumet, MI 49913. Please note "renovations" on your envelope.

Lake Linden Memorial Day activities set

LAKE LINDEN — The American Legion Post 90 has announced its schedule of Memorial Day activities. Breakfast will be held from 7-11 a.m. Monday at the Legion. Scrambled eggs, American fries, pancakes, sausage and French toast will be served with juice or coffee. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. Kids under 5 are admitted at no charge. At 9:30 a.m., memorial services will take place at Village Hall. At 10:30 a.m., services will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in the Veterans Plot. At 11:30 a.m., services will be held at Jacobsville Cemetery.

VFW announces Memorial Day events

SOUTH RANGE — The Rangers VFW Post 6165 has announced its Memorial Day schedule of events. The annual observance of Memorial Day will occur on Monday in honor of those who have given their lives for our freedoms. The VFW members and Auxiliary will conduct services at the following locations at the prescribed time. All members of the VFW and Auxiliary are urged to attend and participate in rendering honors. MARSP set to hold last spring meeting

HOUGHTON — The last spring meeting of the Houghton Keweenaw Chapter of Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel is scheduled for Monday, June 6 at the Bonfire Restaurant in Houghton. The local business meeting will begin at 12:30 p.m. followed by buffet lunch and speaker. The speaker will Cathy Kass-Aten, the executive director of Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly. All members and their guests are encouraged to attend.

Annual plant sale to be held Saturday

HOUGHTON — The Pewabic Street Community Garden’s annual plant sale is set to take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 205 E Montezuma Ave. in Houghton.

Free diapers, COVID test kits available at CAA 

HOUGHTON — The Community Action Agency has free diapers for children newborn to 36 months of age and At-Home COVID 19 test kits while supplies last.   Please stop by the CAA Office 926 Dodge Street, Houghton Monday-Friday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to pickup.  Call 482-5528 with any questions.
