Family dispute ends in tragedy

CALUMET TOWNSHIP — A family dispute ended in tragedy late last week, when one of the people involved died as a result of an apparent suicide, according to the Michigan State Police Calumet Post.

Troopers on Thursday were dispatched to a wooded area near the Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home on Pine Street, where the local resident was found by a private party while troopers, using a K-9 unit, were searching for the person, who had been listed as missing.

“While we had our canine out there searching the area, another person not related to the search actually located him,” said a source at the post. “We then responded to the scene, and found that he was deceased from an apparent suicide.”

The trooper said the ordeal appears to have started the evening before when troopers were dispatched to the man’s home after family members reported not being able to locate him after he left the house upset from an argument.

Further information on the victim has not been released in order to protect the victim and the family.
