Santa returns to Calumet area
CALUMET TOWNSHIP — The villages of Laurium and Calumet are inviting everyone to the second annual Santa Parade, presented by Laurium Village and Main Street Calumet.
The parade will begin in Laurium at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, on M-26 and Hecla Street. It will proceed along Hecla Street, turning left on M-26 and Third Street to U.S. 41, then on to Mine Street to Red Jacket Road, and onto Fifth Street in Calumet Village.
The parade route is similar to last year’s Santa Parade.
“We had so much fun last year,” said Jenn Jenich-Laplander, village trustee, “and the turnout was amazing, so we decided to make this an annual event.”
Main Street Calumet and the Village of Laurium are extending an invitation to all local businesses, organizations, musicians, and bands to enter a decorated float, snowmobile, tractor, or any mobile unit in the parade. Lights, bells, Santa, and all holiday characters are welcome.
Main Street Calumet Executive Director, Leah Polzien said the holidays are a special time.
This is a special event families can enjoy together,” she said, “while also enjoying the festivities happening in Laurium and Calumet.”
Due to the probability of inclement winters and the length of the route, parade entrants are asked not to have walking entries. For those participating, line up begins at 3:30 PM along Kearsarge Street at the intersection of Lake Linden Avenue in Laurium.
New this year: Participants are asked to register via mainstreetcalumet.com. Prizes for the top three floats will be awarded. Judging will be based on appearance, creativity , and holiday cheer. There is no cost to participate. If interested in participating or sponsoring the Santa Parade, please
contact Leah Polzien at info@mainstreetcalumet.com before Wednesday, Dec. 15.
