CALUMET — Douglas Harrer, chairman of the CopperDog 150 board of directors, presented Caiana Silvelet, a ninth-grader at Calumet High School, with a certificate honoring her as CopperDog’s featured artist for 2022 at the school last Friday.

The board plans on making the Invited Artist component into an annual event for area high school students.

“We view this as a way to get the youth in our area interested not only in our CopperDog race event, but also in the sport of sled dog racing itself,” said Board Treasurer Doug King.

Silvelet’s work is featured on this year’s official race poster, and will also be featured on the badge worn by every official. CopperDog will also sell Silvelet’s poster to the public to raise funds for the event.

The CopperDog 150 mission is to develop charitable, educational and benevolent activities dedicated to the enrichment, development and vitality of communities, natural resources and trail systems in Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula through world-class events, creating informational and educational opportunities, encouraging national recognition, specifically with respect to advancing national and international sled dog sports including sled dog racing and an understanding of the historic role of sled dogs in a natural environment.

Starting at $4.00/week.
