LAURIUM — Christmas in Calumet continues this Saturday when Santa Claus will be in town to welcome Christmas Week with a parade and skating.

Festivities begin with a parade beginning in Laurium and ending in the village of Calumet. Santa will participate in the parade, riding on fire truck of the Laurium Fire Department.

Laurium Village Council President Pro Tem Jeff Erickson said the assembly point for the parade will be on Kearsarge Street, just west of 41 Lumber.

The parade will then proceed onto Hecla Street, turning left on Third Street. It will Cross U.S. 41 at Depot Street, turn right on Mine Street, then turn left onto Red Jacket Road. From there the parade will continue onto Fifth Street in the village of Calumet, ending at Elm Street.

Santa will then head over to the George Gipp Arena, near Isle Royale Street in Laurium, for Skate With Santa, from 3-5 p.m. The skate is free and the public is welcome.

Joining the celebration, the Keweenaw National Historical Park will be hosting a holiday open house at the Calumet Visitors Center, at 98 Fifth Street, in Calumet. Friends of Fashion will be on hand with a living window display. The Visitors Center also has a new exhibit, “Winter Wonderland,” and Mike Irish will provide live music for the enjoyment of visitors.

Christmas celebration continues Sunday in Calumet and Laurium, when the holiday storefront decorating contest, Illuminate Calumet, concludes.

Main Street Calumet invites everyone to take a walk of ride through Calumet and Laurium to see all the holiday lights, both of businesses and residences.

Starting at $3.50/week.
