SOUTH RANGE — The village of South Range celebrated its annual Fourth of July parade that it has had ongoing since 1906.

The parade began in front of South Range Elementary before heading into the heart of the village. For this year’s parade, a handful of floats with different groups and organizations participated. The floats featured a 50-year alumni group from Jeffers High School, a few political organization vehicles, and a Fourth of July-themed cake. The participants on the floats were throwing out candy, popsicles and other treats to the parade observers.

The parade featured music by the Jeffers’ Marching Band and Michigan Tech’s Huskies Pep Band.

About 20 children rode their bicycles in the parade, and honking and blaring of sirens came from the multitude of local fire departments such as South Range, Houghton, and Hurontown. A firefighter from Hurontown, Harrison Rahn, said he was delighted to see the extent of the community outreach.

“It’s nice to see folks around having a good time,” he said.

This year there was a new event called Touch-a-Truck, which allowed the public and especially children to get a closer look at select emergency vehicles.

Starting at $3.50/week.
