People who owe, or might owe, federal taxes should hang up and call the IRS at 800-829-1040. IRS workers are available to help with payment questions.

People who don’t owe taxes should fill out the IRS impersonation scam form at www.treasury.gov/tigta, or call TIGTA at 800-366-4484.

Complaints can also be filed with the Federal Trade Commission at www.FTC.gov. Add “IRS Telephone scam” to the comments in the complaint.
