HOUGHTON – The Houghton Police Department is advising the public of a telephone fraud making its way through the region.

“Fraudulent enterprises acting as the U.S. Treasury Department are calling telephone numbers,” Lt. Nick Roberts said. “Perpetrators are advising individuals if they do not pay a certain amount of money immediately, the police will be sent to their residence to arrest them.”

Those who receive similar calls are advised to call the police.
