New treasurer, inspector for Keweenaw

EAGLE RIVER – Keweenaw County voters turned out in large numbers in Tuesday’s elections to decide a number of races, with some contested, while others were not.

Julie Carlson (D) was unopposed for county clerk and registrar of deeds, while John Cima defeated Donna Effinger, 824 to 324 for mine inspector. Eric Hermanson (R), with 900 votes, defeated Kimberly S. Kaura (D) to become the county treasurer.

On the township level, Eagle Harbor, Sherman and Grant Townships had no contested races. Allouez Township had a contested race for seats on the Township Board. Mark Aho (R) received 573 votes, and John Kaura (NPA) earned 372 to defeat Chris Cronenworth (R), who received 354 votes.

Houghton Township also saw a contest for two seats on its board. Jack Treganowan (R) received 49 votes, while Kathy McEvers (D) received 43 votes to beat John Mihelcich (NPA), who earned 27 votes.
