OPT outside with KLT option 1

Opt outside with KLT board member Alex Hirzel on one of his favorite Churning Rapids trails, the Villa Maki. This option 1 will be a fast paced, 2.5 mile hike. We are asking for participants to register and keeping both groups at 15. Masks are mandatory and we keep our six feet apart distances going while still being socially responsible. Meet at the Churning Rapids trail head just off M203. This trail passes through some CFR land, so wear orange, as well as orange for your dogs, too.

Opt Outside with KLT Option #2

Get yourself outside with a pokey, exploratory hike at the Sallie Ollila Memorial Woods, part of the Pilgrim River Watershed Project. This sometimes wet and sometimes dry parcel is beautiful and not open to hunting, making it a perfect place to explore with KLT botanist, Jill Fisher. Parking area is on the east side of Superior Road 0.1 mile past Elsie Road. A gate marks the entrance where we will meet. Masks and social distancing will be required as will registering so we know we can limit the hike to 15 people.

Bear Says Thanks Story Trail at Din Egen Woods

Follow the pages of Karma Wilson’s book along the 1/4 mile trail to KLT’s Din Egen Woods cabin. Check out the cabin to put on your post-COVID-19 bucket list and then if you like, continue across the stream and along the blue-blazed trail to KLT’s boat landing, just follow the T posts across the stamp sands. Hemlocks and old poplars give this slice of the woods a different feel.
