CCISD stories spread across state lines

The Copper Country Intermediate School District Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting virtually on Tuesday, Dec. 15.

Superintendent Stockero shared with the board that two Copper Country stories have made their way to other states and the CCISD had received calls asking about them. The first calls came from schools in Colorado and Florida. They had read about the Tiny House that the CTE construction class completed. The Colorado and Florida schools thought the project was great and wanted to understand the process so they could try to replicate the project.

The next call came from an Autism Specialist from a school district in the Twin Cities in Minnesota. The Twin City superintendent shared the news article about the Core Board with the staff and they decided it is something they would like to implement as well. The CCISD Autism consultant did a virtual meeting with the Autism Consultant from Minnesota. They discussed what the board was made out of and how the CTE class built the frame and activities on the back to encourage students to interact around the structure. Stockero stated that these are two great projects completed by the Copper Country ISD that have made an impact not only within our community but also outside our community.

Stockero also shared with the board that through a grant from the Portage Health Foundation there is now Wi-Fi available in both the ISD main building parking lot and in the parking lot across from the CTE building in Hancock. A partnership between Portage Health Foundation, up.net, Peninsula Fiber

Network and REMC1 has led to the development of a network of free WiFi Hotspots. The Wi-Fi at the CCISD buildings were the final buildings to get completed for the project. The WiFi Hotspots are free and open to the public with no password required. They will be active every day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and do not track any personal usage. For more information on the Wi-Fi project, check out Portage Health Foundations’ website: https://www.phfgive.org/news/free-wifi-hotspots.
