American Legion Post conducts observances

The Alfred Erickson American Legion Post 186 conducted Memorial Day observances at 13 different locations on Memorial Day. The flags displayed on the veterans’ stones at Houghton’s Forest Hill Cemetery were emplaced May 20 by approximately 30 volunteer cadets of the Houghton High School JROTC.

HANCOCK — The Alfred Erickson American Legion Post 186, of Hancock, conducted Memorial Day observances at several locations on Monday.

The sites included the Catholic and Protestant cemeteries on Quincy Street, both of which are now the locations of churches and are separated by Michigan Street, the Houghton County Marina, the Houghton Veterans Park, overlooking the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, Forest Hill Cemetery, in Houghton, the Liminga Cemetery, in Stanton Township, as well as the Lakeside Cemetery, on M-203 in Hancock Township.

Other sites are the Oscar Cemetery, also in Stanton Township, the Quincy Hill Memorial, the Waasa Cemetery and the Post 186 Home.
