VFW post hosts community effort to clean up Copper City Honor Roll

Copper City, MI Facebook page The Veterans Honor Roll in Copper City is the target of a National VFW Day of Service cleanup on Saturday.

CALUMET TOWNSHIP — In honor of the 2024 National VFW Day of Service, VFW Post 3900 is leading a community effort to clean up the Veterans Honor Roll in Copper City in preparation for Memorial Day. Volunteers from the community will gather to restore and beautify this important tribute to honor local veterans.

Volunteers from the community will gather to restore and beautify this important tribute to honor local veterans. The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at 200 Third Street, in Copper City.

The National VFW Day of Service is an outgrowth of the VFW’s StillServing initiative, which launched in 2020, says the VFW, and has since brought recognition to how much U.S. military veterans continue to serve in their communities after they take off their uniform.

StillServing is a campaign to bring attention to and honor the continued commitment and sacrifice of America’s veterans.

The men and women who bravely defend our nation often continue to selflessly serve their communities and country in ways beyond their military service. This awareness campaign showcases how veterans continue a life of service and how their ongoing contributions are positively impacting our society.

In a Feb. 2020 release, the VFW stated

“The men and women who bravely defend our nation often continue to selflessly serve their communities and country in ways beyond their military service. This awareness campaign showcases how veterans continue a life of service and how their ongoing contributions are positively impacting our society.”

By concentrating on veteran-led community service projects on this day, and throughout the month of May,” says the veterans organization, the VFW intends to bring focus to the role veterans play in the well-being of their communities and surrounding areas.
