ONTONAGON — U.P. Michigan Works! announced the new location for the Ontonagon office will be 426 River St.effective Nov. 10. Operations will begin immediately and U.P. Michigan Works! services will continue for Ontonagon County residents, but the office is no longer accepting walk-in and appointments must be scheduled in advance through upmichiganworks.org or over the phone. Lift bridge lane closures HOUGHTON - Crews from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be performing routine bridge inspections on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge Monday. These inspections will require lane closures. Drivers should expect intermittent single-lane closures on the bridge from Monday through Friday (10/20-24). At least one lane will remain open in each direction. From 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. nightly Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the bridge will not lift for vessels while inspections are underway. The community has expressed interest in seeing the interior of the building and learning more about the history of the congregation after viewing the repairs this summer on the retaining wall. HOUGHTON - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be conducting routine scheduled maintenance on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge Thursday, Oct. 16, requiring bridge lifts. Cable greasing is scheduled for early Thursday morning, requiring several bridge lifts of up to 30 minutes each. These lifts are scheduled to begin after midnight and be completed by 6 a.m. Thursday.
