HOUGHTON — The Houghton Police Department is investigating a personal injury accident that occurred Tuesday afternoon. According to a press release, the accident happened at about 1:50 p.m. Tusday on Townsen Drive/US 41. Police said a bicyclist traveling on the sidewalk was struck by a vehicle driven by a 21-year-old man from Minnesota. The cyclist was taken by Mercy Ambulance to UP Health System-Portage for medical treatment. MARQUETTE – The body of a missing Marquette woman has been found. Marquette Police said the body of Eileen Mandel was found around 10:35 p.m. Tuesday night. The pickup truck she was driving was located on a two-track road in Negaunee Township at around 8:50 p.m. and her body found in the woods nearby. The Marquette Police Department does not suspect foul play was involved, but the incident is still under investigation. Assisting with the investigation were the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Michigan Department of Natural Resources and UPHS-Marquette EMS.

Circuit Court Sentencings On Monday, Robert Kittinger was sentenced in Keweenaaw County Circuit Court in Eagle River. Kittinger had pleaded guilty to one count of assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer and one count of operating a motor vehicle without security. Kittinger was assessed fines and costs of $308, and 51 days in jail with credit for time served. In Baraga County Circuit Court Wednesday, Brian Tellin was sentenced to 10 months in the Baraga County Jail. Tellin pleaded guilty to one count of delivery of methamphetamine. Proposals sought for Bond Falls Mitigation and Enhancement Fund Grant Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) is now accepting proposals through October 15 for the annual Bond Falls Mitigation and Enhancement Fund (MEF) grant. The goal of the grant is to create tangible, measurable improvements to aquatic and terrestrial environments within the Ontonagon River watershed.
