Hancock names principal

HANCOCK — Hancock Public Schools announced the appointment of Mollie Trewartha as the principal of Hancock Middle and High Schools Monday. According to a Hancock Schools press release, Threwartha has more than 24 years of experience in education, and is known for her student-centered leadership and collaborative spirit. She previously served as a mathematics teacher and MTSS Coordinator in the Houghton-Portage Township School District. UP Jobless inches up .5%

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Upper Peninsula jobless rate rose to 8.4% in February, up from 7.9% in January and 6.8% a year ago, according to data released by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget. The February rate — not seasonally adjusted — was the region’s highest for the month since February 2015, when it was also 8.4%.
