HANCOCK — Temple Jacob, the synagogue in Hancock, will hold an Open House from 2 - 4 p.m. Saturday. The community has expressed interest in seeing the interior of the building and learning more about the history of the congregation after viewing the repairs this summer on the retaining wall. HOUGHTON - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be conducting routine scheduled maintenance on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge Thursday, Oct. 16, requiring bridge lifts. Cable greasing is scheduled for early Thursday morning, requiring several bridge lifts of up to 30 minutes each. These lifts are scheduled to begin after midnight and be completed by 6 a.m. Thursday. COPPER HARBOR — The Keweenaw Lions Club is now selling tickets for its Lake Superior Cruise fundraiser aboard the Isle Royale Queen IV. Limited tickets are $30 each and are already selling quickly. Cruise will depart from the Isle Royale Queen Dock in Copper Harbor, Sunday September 21. The two-hour tour will begin boarding at 1:30 p.m. with a 2 p.m, departure. HOUGHTON — The Houghton Police Department is investigating a personal injury accident that occurred Tuesday afternoon. According to a press release, the accident happened at about 1:50 p.m. Tusday on Townsen Drive/US 41. Police said a bicyclist traveling on the sidewalk was struck by a vehicle driven by a 21-year-old man from Minnesota. The cyclist was taken by Mercy Ambulance to UP Health System-Portage for medical treatment. MARQUETTE – The body of a missing Marquette woman has been found. Marquette Police said the body of Eileen Mandel was found around 10:35 p.m. Tuesday night. The pickup truck she was driving was located on a two-track road in Negaunee Township at around 8:50 p.m. and her body found in the woods nearby. The Marquette Police Department does not suspect foul play was involved, but the incident is still under investigation. Assisting with the investigation were the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Michigan Department of Natural Resources and UPHS-Marquette EMS.
